Australia have continued their good form in the AFF Under 16 Championships with a 2-0 win over hosts Myanmar in Naypyidaw on Friday.
Australia played well and looked to control possession early on against a strong and physical Myanmar side.
The Joeys had plenty of chances in that first half as they passed the ball around with ease abd were able to create plenty of chances but they struggled to really take them.
The home crowd was right behind their team and that put pressure on the Joeys but in the 29th minute they had their goal as Brandon Osipov found Gaio De Godoy on the left allowing him to switch for Daniel Maskin who ran at the keeper before chipping home the opening goal.
The Joeys came out from the break facing an even more fierce crowd as they looked to spur their team on to victory and the Myanmar side respondeded by trying to go for goal and also ramping up the physicality.
For all that work Australia found their second goal in the 62nd minute as Maskin was allowed behind the defense and crossed only for Phone Thitsar Min to get a hand to it but that punch fell to Gian Mendez who slotted the ball through a sea of legs to double the Joeys lead.
That goal spurred the crowd on, they were not silenced by the Joeys goalscoring and that enthusiasm reflected in the Myanmar players who pushed to find goals and had two or three real opportunities to score a goal and get back in to the match.
In the end Australia were able to hold firm and hold on for a 2-0 win that puts them in the box seat to advance to the Semi-Finals with a win over Vietnam on Monday sure to send them through.
