Joel Osteen uses Twitter and Facebook to spread gospel

While Joel Osteen is pastor of America's largest megachurch, he may reach even more people through Twitter and Facebook, according to an article in today's Christian Post.

While thousands of people flock to listen to his positive sermons at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas every Sunday, he is able to spread the gospel to millions through Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets.

Osteen Ministeries has 1.3 million Twitter followers and 2.8 million Facebook fans.

One of the Joel Osteen Ministeries most frequently retweeted messages was, "Don't allow negative people to steal your joy. When you lose your joy, you lose your strength." This message was retweeted more than 8,000 times.

Another Osteen tweet read, "God is fighting your battles, arranging things in your favor, making a way even when you don't see a way." This one was retweeted by more than 7,000 followers.

Osteen's tweets ranked third in 2012 among the top 10 most daily retweeted names beating out such famous brands as the Miami Heat world championship basketball team and CNN.

Joyce Meyer Ministeries was the most retweeted name last year on Twitter.

Osteen's followers on Twitter include Hollywood stars, athletes, other Christian ministers and politicians.

Other top Christians tweets of 2012 were authored by Tim Tebow, according to to another Christian Post article today (Jan. 29, 2013). Tebow's top tweet said, "Happy moments, praise God. Difficult moments, seek God. Quiet moments, worship God. Painful moments, trust God. Every moment, THANK GOD." This tweet was retweeted a remarkable 25, 673 times. Tebow has an incredible 2, 071463 followers.

Tebow may have a special ministery in that he has been going through a real season of testing this past year as he has seen very little playing time with the New York Jets. Although, he has been frustrated by the lack of respect shown him by the New York management, he has never wavered in his faith.

Another top Christian tweeter is Olympic Gold Medalist Gabrielle Douglas. She tweeted, "Thank you guys for everything! I am SO grateful God has truly blessed me! Remember to ALWAYS give him the glory for he is GREAT!" This message was retweeted 9, 564 times. She has 760, 586 followers.

Joyce Meyer has 1, 588, 367 followers on Twitter. Meyer tweeted, "God's timing is perfect; He is never late. Even when things seem out of control God is still working and has a plan for your life." This message received 7,592 retweets.

One of the most popular Facebook Christian messages has been, "If God is for you, who can be against you?" This message has been shared by an incredible 30,000 users of Facebook.

Before he ascended into heaven Jesus told his disciples, "All authority in heaven and earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

The explosion of social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and others has made it far easier to spread the gospel to all corners of the world than it was in the days of the disciples who wore sandals as they walked on their mission journeys during the first century after Christ.
