Catholic Hospital Protects Abortionist

The Catholic hospital in Durango, Colorado that employs the region's only abortionist is refusing to meet with pro-lifers or deny hospital privileges to Dr. Grossman.

Dr. Grossman is the only abortionist at the Planned Parenthood in Durango.  He is also an open proponent of abortion as a form of population and birth control.  He plies his trade at Mercy Regional Medical Center, a Catholic hospital where he delivers babies, and at Planned Parenthood, where he kills them.

Not surprisingly, when Dr. Grossman's abortions go wrong, the women are taken to the Catholic Hospital where he works.  See Video of an unidentified young woman being taken away in an ambulance from Dr. Grossman's abortuary to Mercy Regional Medical Center.

The video shows that Dr. Grossman's relationship with the hospital is far from incidental, and highly scandalous.

Diocese of Pueblo Washes its Hands

As a result of media attention and local pressure upon the Diocese of Pueblo, the Diocese made an official statement through the Director of the Office of Lifelong Catechesis's, Fr. Michael Papesh.

According to Fr. Papesh, "A canonical investigation into the relationship between a local obstetrician/gynecologist and the Mercy Medical Center in Durango was commissioned in 2008,” the statement informed. “The results of that investigation were that Mercy Medical Center is in full compliance with the ‘Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Services’ of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).”

However, directive 45 of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Services states, in part,

Catholic health care institutions need to be concerned about the danger of scandal in any association with abortion providers.

Far from reaching the conclusion that Mercy Hospital is in "full compliance," a closer examination of the Ethical and Religious Directives leads one to the conclusion that Mercy Hospital is causing a grave scandal to the Church.

Scandal is defined by the Catholic Catechism as "an attitude or behavior which leads another to do evil."  It appears that issuing a clean moral report card to a hospital that employs an abortionist is precisely "an attitude or behavior which leads another to do evil." 

To the scandal of a Catholic hospital financially enabling the only abortionist in the region must be added the scandal of the Diocese of Pueblo stating that everything is in order: it is not.

People of Durango Rise Up

On Thursday, July 29, 2010 a press conference and protest will be held outside of the entrance to Mercy Regional Medical Center at 1010 Three Springs Blvd., in Durango, CO

If you cannot make it out here yourself, we ask you to call the hospital and tell them that no Catholic hospital should grant privileges to Dr. Grossman or any other abortionist.

The Catholic church is a magnificent institution.  Its schools and hospitals have literally transformed the world and educated and treated an untold number of people.  Catholics on the ground in Colorado will not allow the cancer of the culture of death to continue to rot our Catholic institutions any longer.
