Rogers, Arkansas native Joe Nichols said "it's good to be home," as he rolled out a 15-song set Sunday, August 25, that included new and old songs and a high spirited "calling of the Hogs"at Little Rock radio station KSSN 96 FM's annual listener appreciation party, called Blacktop Boogie.
Nichols thanked the fans and the station for all of the support in his career. He included "The Impossible," his first number one song from 2002, early in his set. He spoke of today's stars that are including rap in their songs. Nichols says he speaks slow but decided to give the crowd a taste of his rap skills with a funny rap version of "I Like Big Butts." He also tried his hand with Blake Shelton's "chew tobacco, chew tobacco, spit" lyrics from the hit "Boys Round Here."
October 8 is the release date for Nichols' new album. He made the crowd repeat that date so they would remember. He showcased some of the new songs, including "Hee Haw." He told everyone to hold a lighter or a baby in the air as he sang "She Only Smokes When She Drinks." "Yeah" was another of his new songs he tried out. He had the men and ladies sing along with him. "What's A Guy Gotta Do To Get A Girl In This Town" seemed to be a crowd favorite.
"Sunny and 75," Nichols' latest single was performed as the Little Rock weather was sunny and 91 degrees. He said it did feel like 75 though.
"Brokenheartsville," the 'kiss my glass' song was well received. Nichols closed with "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off.
Nichols is 36-years-old and said he enjoys traditional country music. He received the Country Music Horizon Award in 2003.
