The Nationwide Series visits Iowa Speedway for the second time this season for this weekend’s US Cellular 250, taking place Saturday, August 2nd. Joe Gibbs Racing driver Sam Hornish Jr. won the last time the series hit the track in Newton, Iowa, and returns along with JGR regular Elliott Sadler and Michael McDowell.
Hornish Jr., in the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota Camry at Iowa, has four top 10 finishes, including the win in May, in six races at the track. In addition to his average finish of 7.7 at Iowa Speedway, Hornish Jr. has an average starting position of 5.0, with just one start outside the top 10 in those six races.
Sadler, in the No. 11 Stratasys Toyota on Saturday, also has a good track record at Iowa, with seven top 10 starts and seven top 10 finishes in seven races, including a win in August 2012 and three straight poles (August 2011-August 2012). In May, Sadler started eighth and finished fifth.
McDowell, in the No. 20 Pizza Ranch Toyota at Iowa, is also a tough player at the track. He has six top 10 starts and finishes in seven starts, with an average finish of 7.6. In May, McDowell started third and finished seventh in a strong showing for JGR, with three top 10 Camrys.
