The Nationwide Series heads back to the road course this weekend, this time visiting Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Joe Gibbs Racing will field three cars for the latest road course race, with Elliott Sadler, Kenny Habul and Sam Hornish Jr. behind the wheels of Toyota Camrys for the team.
This marks the second season that the Nationwide Series visits Mid-Ohio for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200. Last season, Sadler, driving the No. 11 OneMain Financial Toyota Camry for JGR, started 14th and finished sixth at Mid-Ohio. Sadler is not known for being a road course racer, but has a record of nine top 10 finishes in 14 road course starts in the Nationwide Series.
Habul, who fielded his own car in last year’s race, started 29th and finished 26th; this season, he’ll race the No. 20 SunEnergy1 Toyota at Mid-Ohio. Habul, from Queensland, Australia, has made all eight of his Nationwide Series starts on road courses, including a 26th-place finish last weekend at Watkins Glen International for his own team.
Hornish Jr., in the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota, started eighth and finished third last season at Mid-Ohio. He also has an IndyCar start at the track, starting seventh and finishing 12th back in 2007. In his Nationwide Series career, Hornish Jr. has two poles and six top 10 finishes in nine road course starts.
Qualifying for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital 200 on Saturday begins at 9:40 a.m. ET, with the green flag waving at 2:45 p.m. ET. Keep up with the action at joegibbsracing.com.
