The Sprint Cup Series heads to the “Tricky Triangle,” Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania, for this weekend’s GoBowling.com 400 on Sunday, August 3rd. Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin was a master at Pocono early on in his career, winning four times in his first nine starts, but his teammates Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth are looking for their first wins at the 2.5-mile tri-oval.
Hamlin, in the No. 11 FedEx Office Toyota Camry this weekend, won the first two races of his career at Pocono from the pole; he has gone on to accumulate three poles and 11 top 10 finishes in 17 starts. In June, Hamlin won the pole and finished fourth at the track.
Busch, in the No. 18 M&Ms Toyota on Sunday, won the pole for the June 2010 race and backed it up with a runner-up finish – where he also finished in August 2011 – but hasn’t had the best of luck otherwise at Pocono. Busch has seven top 10 finishes in 19 starts at the track; in June he qualified sixth and finished 12th.
Kenseth, in the No. 20 Dollar General Toyota at Pocono, has neither a pole nor a win at the “Tricky Triangle,” a track that has proved just that for him. His best finish at the track is third (June 2003) and his best start is fourth (twice); he has just 10 top 10 finishes in 29 starts at the track.
Qualifying for the GoBowling.com 400 at Pocono Raceway gets underway Friday at 3:40 p.m. ET. The race goes green Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Keep up with the action at joegibbsracing.com.
