Jodie Foster & Kate Winslet face Roman Polanski's 'God of Carnage'

Even on paper, this is too good to be true. Twin titan Oscar winners Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet will square off against each other in Roman Polanski's screen adaptation of "God of Carnage." Co-starring that Oscar-winning "Basterd" Christoph Waltz and Matt Dillon, Deadline is reporting the quartet will take on the acclaimed roles in Yasmina Reza's Tony Award-winning smash.

"God of Carnage" is a blistering look at societal dysfunction when two couples attempt to settle a playground conflict involving their children. Instead, the evening sprials out of control and into a wicked battle between the sexes.

The original Broadway production drew raves in 2009 and sold out houses thanks to its original starry cast of James Gandolfini, Marcia Gay Harden, Hope Davis and Jeff Daniels. It won Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Director (Matthew Warchus) and Best Actress in a Play (Harden).

Polanski, who continues to weather polarizing media and public response over his legal battles, will be shooting "God of Carnage" in France next February. Playwright Reza is also involved with the project, retaining the Brooklyn location of the Broadway mounting. (The original London production was set in Paris).
