The 70th annual Golden Globe Awards was a night of laughter and surprise announcements. Jodie Foster gave a memorable, moving speech as she accepted the Hollywood’s Foreign Press Association’s Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. She came out publicly as a lesbian and spoke about her relationship with Cydney Bernard, her former partner of 20 years with whom she has two sons. According to cbsnews.com, Foster called her “my heroic co-parent, my ex-partner in love but righteous soul sister in life, my confessor, ski buddy, consiglieri, and most beloved BFF of 20 years.”
In a report on NY Daily News, the 50-year old actress, who has kept her private life as guarded as anyone in Hollywood, came as close as she ever has to outing herself as a lesbian as she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes. “I guess I have a sudden urge to say something that I’ve never been able to air in public that I’m a little nervous about, but maybe not as nervous as my publicist (Jodie Foster, nydailynews.com).”
