Jodi Arias trial: Defense expert admits accused murderer attacked her own mom

On March 26, 2013, the Jodi Arias trial continued with further questioning of defense expert psychologist Richard Samuels, who admitted the accused murderer once physically assaulted her own mother, according to Enstars.

Arias, 32, is charged with the brutal 2008 murder of her former lover, Arizona man Travis Alexander, 30. He was stabbed over two dozen times, was shot in the head, and his throat was slashed. She claims she killed him in self-defense, but during the trial Arias has testified she does not remember much about the deadly confrontation.

Samuels has diagnosed Arias as suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and amnesia.

On Monday, prosecutor Juan Martinez asked him, “When she was a teenager, isn’t it true that the defendant had such anger toward her mother Sandy, that she treated her like crap?”

The psychologist replied, “Yes.”

Martinez continued, “And isn’t it true that they argued all the time, right?” to which Samuels responded in the affirmative.

“And isn’t it true that during that time, the defendant hit Sandy for no reason?” Martinez asked and Samuels once again answered “Yes,” but added the incident was not relevant to his diagnosis of Arias.

Martinez also questioned Samuels about a story Arias had told him in which her family was “sitting down for dinner or something” and she became angry, kicking her mother “for no reason.”

Samuels answered yes, confirming Martinez’s assertion.

In prior testimony, according to Enstars, Arias testified her mother and father were abusive to her when she was a child.

Domestic violence expert Alyce LaViolette also testified for the defense Tuesday, telling the jury that many victims of domestic abuse don’t report it to authorities, The Washington Post writes.

Arias alleged during her testimony that leading up to the day Alexander was killed, he had become more and more abusive to her.

LaViolette is slated to resume her testimony Wednesday.
