Jodi Arias tells jury if she’s convicted of murder, it's due to ‘bad choices'

On Mar. 7, 2013, Jodi Arias took the stand in her murder trial for the last time and told the jury if she is convicted of murdering Ariz. man Travis Alexander, it will be because of her own “bad choices.”

According to ABC News, prior to her final statement to jurors, Arias was faced with more questions from those sitting in judgment of her.

One jury member asked, “After all the lies you told… why should we believe you now?”

Another questioned how she thought of grabbing a gun during the heated confrontation Arias claims she had with Alexander just before killing him. The juror also wanted to know, “How can you say you don’t have memory issues when you can’t remember how you stabbed him so many times and slashed his throat?”

ABC notes that an abundance of the jury’s questions focused on the lies Arias told and the claim she made that she has no memory of killing Alexander.

After a borage of such inquiries, Arias answered from the stand, “Well, as far as what happened… I don’t know how the mind works necessarily, but I know that was the most traumatic experience of my life.”

Her final words to the jury were, “Like I said before, I lied a lot. Each of those lies tied back to two things—protecting his [Alexander] ego… no… his reputation, and my own… and second, relating to any involvement in his death.”

She added, “I understand that there will always be questions, but all I can do, at this point, is say what happened to the best of my recollection. If I’m convicted, that’s because of my own bad choices.”

Prosecutors argue Arias, 32, killed Alexander, 30, in cold blood as he showered in his Mesa home in 2008. He was stabbed 27 times, his throat was slashed, and he was shot in the head. After initially lying about his death, she admitted killing Alexander, but claims she did so in self-defense.
