Jodi Arias jury hears her say she would ‘beg for’ death if she killed Alexander

On Jan. 14, 2013, the Jodi Arias jury heard her say during a videotaped interview with police that she would ask for the death penalty if she were responsible for Travis Alexander’s death.

During the July 15, 2008, conversation, with Mesa, Ariz. Police Det. Esteban Flores, Arias said “If I am found guilty I won’t have a life… If I killed Travis I would beg for the death penalty.”

“You sure it was me?” she asked Flores. “I was not there. I didn’t hurt Travis.”

Flores told Arias her blood, hair, and palm print were all left at the crime scene and offered to show her the photos police recovered, saying, “There’s pictures of you lying on the bed in pigtails.”

Arias’ trial recessed shortly thereafter, but is slated to reconvene on Tuesday.

Arias, 32, is accused of murdering Alexander, 30, by shooting him in the head with a gun police believe she stole from her grandmother, slashing his throat, and stabbing him 27 times. After police recovered a camera memory card with images including Arias dragging Alexander’s lifeless body along the floor, she admitted to killing him, saying it was in self-defense.
