Dear Crabby,
I quit my job yesterday. I just couldn't do it any more. No respect, no dignity, no help, no money.. Crabby, I get the feeling that employers think they can treat everyone like s _ _ t, because of the economic climate, but you know what? They shouldn't. And, I took it for awhile, but I work hard
and I earned the respect, and the wages, that the company failed to deliver. They can get a new lackey for that job; hey Crabby, do you know of any jobs out there for me?
Short-changed in Cheboygan
Dear Shorty,
Crabby must ask, are you out of your mind? Quitting in this economy? OK, Crabby's just quitting, I mean kidding... Sometimes dignity, self-respect, and fair-play trump "having a job." You did what you felt you had to do, and you should be admired for standing up to adversity, and for taking a stand for your principles...
But, a paycheck would look good, too, huh? Sorry, couldn't resist.
Crabby was sent something awhile back that may lend some perspective to what you just went through and are continuing to go through, and since you brought it up, Shorty, Crabby thought it might apply to others as well. Many of these have been published before (don't know the author), and Crabby has added just a few to round it into a list of 20 things to QUIT QUITTING.
And, please come back to this column Monday, and you'll see an example of not quitting, because we'll be announcing a new website of something that is different than most anything you've seen before. We're excited about it and hope you'll at least give a look on Monday (Hey, a good reason to subscribe, up above, if you haven't already). Thank you.
DON'T QUIT QUITTING
- QUIT arguing with people about the same old stuff! Respect their position; keep it moving.
- QUIT telling people your secrets when you know they are not going to keep them; and, if you keep telling them, then quit getting mad when they tell share your secrets.
- QUIT trying to pull people on your journey, who don't want to travel with you. Either they believe in you, and value you, or they don't.
- QUIT complaining about things you can't, or won't, change.
- QUIT gossiping; mind your own business and make it a full-time job.
- QUIT blaming others for things that won't matter in three weeks; Talk solutions.. and then implement them.
- QUIT eating, smoking, collecting, things you know are not good for you; if you can't quit, do it less.
- QUIT buying things when you can't afford them. If you don't have self-control, then don't shop. Quit charging things you don't need.

- QUIT unhealthy relationships; it is not OK for people to abuse you physically or verbally. So don't lie to yourself -- do something for you. Your children would rather see you apart than living in misery together. Ask them.
- QUIT trying to change people; the WON'T CHANGE, because they don't think they should. Do you?
- QUIT cussing out people when you know they are simply being the miserable, jealous people they are. Ignore them, and don't let the affect you.
- QUIT the job you hate. Start pursuing your passion and find the job that fuels that passion; do it BEFORE you quit your job, if possible.
- QUIT volunteering for things that arena't giving you personal fulfillment. Then, you can quit volunteering for things that you fail to follow through.
- QUIT listening to naysayers. Quit watching the news if you live in the doom it fosters.
- QUIT making excuses about work, about money, about relationships, about life.
- QUIT waiting on others to come through for you; find the answers yourself. If what you're doing isn't working, change it.
- QUIT settling and start making your dreams a reality.
- QUIT being afraid and start living; create the life you want and the life you deserve.
- QUIT putting things off; if it's on the to-do list, do it. If it's important enough to do, it's important enough to do today.
- QUIT neglecting those most important to you; when times are tough, family and friends become even more important, and it's easy to get self-centered and depressed in tough times. Lean on them for strength and make sure they know how important they are.
