Getting a leg up on finding a job is always a good thing especially when professional advice is available.

Job Search 101 (JS 101) is a Houston-based non-profit organization with a mission to improve the job search process for the unemployed.

Their next upcoming event, “Jump Start Your Job Search,” on January 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. will be held at Los Cucos Mexican Restaurant at 5851 Westheimer.

The purpose of the event is to connect current job seekers with other job seekers and recruiters. “Jump Start Your Job Search” is also a critical opportunity for people and organizations to learn more about JS 101, why it was created and what it has to offer.

JS 101 invites job seekers, company recruiters, staffing agencies, and community or organizational leaders to network with JS 101 career coaches and participants at the "Jump Start Your Job Search" event.

The company began in 2011 when one man saw a tremendous need in Houston for free quality training for the unemployed. Founder, Ed Hubbard, started JS 101 to provide of job search workshops facilitated by experienced and professional career coaches. Workshops are delivered in a variety of settings from public to nonprofit and are all privately funded.

“Applications sent online with no human response can be very frustrating for long time job seekers. It is easy to get depressed or feel out of the loop in today’s digital application process. So often job seekers just need the right lead, or connection to get them started,” says JS 101 founder Ed Hubbard.

Hubbard’s upcoming event hopes to bridge the digital divide by bringing qualified and prepared job seekers together with face to face opportunities in a casual setting.

JS 101 offers a variety of classes to help job seekers find work. The typical course is presented in four modules. The course division includes: Module 1: Laying the Foundation, Module 2: Developing the Tools, Module 3: Marketing Yourself, and Module 4: Getting the Offer.
