WNET has an immediate opportunity in Manhattan available for a Multimedia producer to produce content for the online platform as well as support the production of content for the broadcast platform for Need to Know, a PBS national news magazine show produced by CNG, an affiliate of WNET. Now in its second season, Need to Know is focused on covering the 2012 election season. In addition to the weekly broadcast, the Need to Know website publishes a daily news blog, opinion pieces and original web-only multimedia features.
"He/she will work closely with the editorial team at all stages of the production process from story development through post-production. Responsibilities and tasks will include, but are not limited to, researching stories; pre-interviewing potential interview candidates; organizing shoots; fact-checking scripts; searching for archival footage; developing and producing interactive features; posting video, audio, and text to the online platform, managing deliverables, assisting in delivery of segments to broadcast team, and maintaining production records.
Responsibilities may also include shooting and/or editing video. In addition, he/she will liaise, as necessary, with various other departments, including publicity, production services, finance and legal."
"To qualify, candidates must have a BA/BS in Liberal Arts or equivalent experience along with a minimum of two (2) years experience in multimedia production and two (2) years experience in print, online or broadcast journalism. Additional qualifications include:
- Ability to shoot and write and to edit video using Final Cut Pro
- Exceptional research skills, written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Exceptional ability to write for video.
- Exceptional planning, organization, problem analysis and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines and to problem-solve when difficulties arise.
Candidates with prior experience in production of daily or weekly news/public affairs program, familiarity with web publishing tools, prior experience in archival research and a demonstrated interest in current affairs are preferred.
