Do you ever wonder what is or is NOT acceptable when looking for a job? As you begin your job search, here are a few things not to do. First, when preparing your resume, do not prepare a two or three page resume. Make it a one-page document if at all possible, use a decent size font, and DO NOT LIE about your experience or work history. Once given a date and time for the interview, do not cancel it, unless it’s an ABSOLUTE emergency.
Do not show up late for the interview, do not bring your cell phone or your friends. And whatever you do, know something about the company you are interviewing for. Do not wear wrinkled or soiled clothing, but dress appropriately. Do not wear jeans, gaudy jewelry or excessive makeup. Do not talk too much or over-emphasize your intelligence.
Always remember the interviewer’s name, or at least get his/her business card, so that you can send them a thank-you note after the interview. The last mistake is never call the day after the interview to see if you got the job. Wait at least a week, and then you may call to inquire.
