Joaquin Phoenix in talks for Batman vs Superman. Could he be Lex Luthor?

While the movie is years away, word continues to spread on the upcoming "Batman vs Superman". Following the announcement of Gal Gadot playing Wonder Woman, news began to circle on who will play the villain. Actor such as Jason Momoa have been rumored to take up a villainous role; but as of today, another name has enter the fray and could be the nab to take the role as the lead antagonist. According to Variety, it seems the studio is interested in Joaquin Phoenix to play a part in this upcoming blockbuster.

Joaquin Phoenix has been known for diverse roles in the likes of Gladiator and Walk the Line. The actor took a break from acting only to return to the movie industry in last year's The Master; and can be seen in the new drama Her. While it is unclear what the Warner Bros wants Phoenix to do, signs are pointing that the actor may portray Superman's arch nemesis: Lex Luthor. This is still undetermined, so stay tune for more on this story.

The film stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Lawrence Fishburne.

The "Batman vs Superman" film will be heading to theaters on July 17 2015.
