Joanna Krupa, a contestant on Dancing With the Stars and Playboy model, has drawn fire from the Catholic League over her controversial nude PETA ad.

In the racy photo for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), a naked Krupa is pictured with a halo over her head holding a crucifix above the caption Be An Angel for Animals.

In the sexy ad, Krupa encourages people to adopt, rather than buy, pets to avoid the destruction of unwanted animals that are bred for sale but never purchased.

Interestingly, Catholics are furious that PETA has "ripped off Christian icononography" in the racy photo.

"Cats and dogs are a lot safer in pet stores than they are in the hands of PETA employees," the president of the Catholic League told reporters. "Moreover, pet stores don’t rip off Christian iconography and engage in cheap irreligious claims."

Joanna, 30, is unfazed by the controversy. “I’m doing what the Catholic Church should be doing, working to stop senseless suffering of animals--the most defenseless of God’s creations,” she said. This is the second photo shoot Krupa has done for PETA, which is known for its shock tactics and use of naked celebrities in its campaigns. Joanna Krupa naked PETA ad photo

One thing most people can agree on is that Krupa is in incredible shape. The gorgeous Polish-born Joanna, who has posed nude for Playboy, works out 3-4 times a week doing Pilates, yoga, core training and kick-boxing.

She also takes hour-long step aerobics classes, lifts weights and hikes with her dog.

The stunning Krupa stays lean by eating high-protein, low-carb, low-calorie foods. "You have to be really strict about your diet and the way you take care of your skin," Joanna says.

Unlike other super-skinny actresses or models who claim they never diet or exercise, Krupa is honest about the efforts she takes to maintain her good looks.

"There’s a lot of hard work involved," she says. "There’s constant pressure [to look good]. Maybe one day you’re not feeling that great, but you have to make it come out on camera that you are. It’s not as easy as people think."

The Catholic Church is losing members left and right in America - now i see why...
they spent already 500mio on settling their sexual harassment cases and wanna tell PeTA about moral usage of the cross???!!!Laughable!

What a pathetic orgnaization has the Catholic Church become?
    Bravo PeTA! Bravo Joanna!

Agree with Sabrina. Doesn't the Catholic church have other issues to worry about--like all the sexual molestation charges against its army of predatory priests????

if anything, the religious iconography draw attention to the church by associating "Angels" with the catholic church. It's free advertising, Catholics, why complain?!

As a Christian, I am offended by PETA choosing to use a Christian symbol with some nude model. PETA owes an apology to all Christians.

First off - the "army of predatory priests" you are talking about make up .0000001% of the priests on the planet. It's the equivalent to the molestation charges you hear with teachers. Do a few bad seeds mean the system of education is evil? Of course not. Does it excuse it, no. But what exactly does corruption in the church, like corruption in EVERY OTHER GOOD THING we have on this planet, have to do with the unabashed, exploitative use of christian symbols for the purpose of PETA's own greed?

Secondly, for curious agonostic, Catholics are offended because the association of angles with sex is counter-active to our faith. Angels are not sexual. They are asexual. Putting Joanna Krupa with a cross covering her breasts and vagins will make every man in the world want to buy a playboy mag, not adopt a puppy. And playboy, lust and objectifying women as sex objects has nothing to do with the christian faith at its roots. So no, its not "promotion". Its totally offensive.

Sabrina, this is totally offensive to all christian people and above all to our God, I think we should stop putting the catholic church down due because they stand to protect God's holiness and goodness, despite the wrong doing of a minority of Priests, you can't judge the entire instituation. I pray for this woman's soul for choosing to do such a thing and the people who have orchestrated this advertisement. It is a very serious sin which will lead to hell. May God have mercy on their soul.

Many are called and few are chosen.

I'm offended that anyone would be offended by this. It shows just how uneducated people are. Where do you think Christians got these icons? If you believe in Christ so strongly, ask yourselves what he would think of your petty nonsense toward someone who is looking after his creatures. The self-righteousness of people has gone beyond the logical and humanity has proven it's not worth saving when we witness such trivial, Rhetorical pettiness.

Thank you Krupa for your efforts. You're an angel.
