Joan Rivers was hospitalized yesterday after complications during a surgical procedure on her vocal chords got complicated. News that the comedian was in critical condition spread fast and Melissa Rivers scrambled to be by her side. On Friday, the New York Daily News reported that Joan Rivers is still hospitalized and is resting after being placed in a medically induced coma.

Melissa Rivers was able to get to Joan's bedside around 8 p.m. Thursday night. Through a hospital representative, she released a statement on the condition of her mother that was incredibly vague. The statement said, "I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother. She is resting comfortably and is with our family."

It turns out that Joan Rivers is resting right now in a medically induced coma. The "Fashion Police" star suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest. It is unclear for how long Rivers stopped breathing and what medical complications she might have upon recovery.

Rivers was rushed to Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan after complications during a routine outpatient surgical procedure. Joan had told fans earlier in the month that she was having the procedure done after doctors found a spot on her vocal chords. She sought medical treatment after a long-lasting, nagging cough wouldn't go away. She told fans to continue to laugh with her during the ordeal. Rivers even performed a full hour set to a sold out crowd the night before her surgery.

The seriousness of Joan Rivers' health scare is still unclear. At this time, Melissa Rivers has asked fans to continue praying for the fast recovery of her mother.
