What happens when the reigning diva of the “Fashion Police” meets the reigning diva of the Muppets and the two find themselves in a potential turf war for the QVC diva title? Food fight! At least, that’s the latest word coming out of Hollywood the day after Joan Rivers exited the Feb. 28 QVC Red Carpet – Live from L.A. event covered in cake.
"Leaked" event footage from backstage reveals just what happened – a clever publicity stunt to promote the two larger-than-live personalities, their products and their brands.
Rivers was attending the event to promote jewelry from her QVC collection, while Miss Piggy was there to promote her spectacular self – and Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted,” the sequel to 2011’s “The Muppets” that will be released to theaters March 11.
The video shows the two backstage at the QVC Red Carpet Style party exchanging words before Miss Piggy ends up shoving Rivers into a cake. The frosting-covered comedian left the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills surrounded by speculation about what went down. Now we know – it’s all in good fun.
Speaking of leaks, however, word is also out that Miss Piggy will promote her own “Moi by Miss Piggy” lifestyle line during a March 16 appearance on QVC. She’s hinted to US Weekly that some of her “Muppets Most Wanted” co-stars will appear with her – as if they would dare refuse.
The Muppets diva has yet to release a comment on the whole publicity stunt, although one might guess Miss Piggy would paraphrase Marie Antoinette’s position as “Let moi eat cake!” Although in this case, Miss Piggy seems more than willing to forcibly let Joan Rivers enjoy a few crumbs.
Meanwhile, the faux cake confrontation between Rivers and Miss Piggy has been taken to social media. The Twitterverse is being encouraged taking sides in a hashtag showdown. So are you #TeamMissPiggy or #TeamJoan?
