Dr. Mehmet Oz revealed emergency fixes for when you cheat on your diet and Joan Rivers' anti-aging secrets on the April 18 episode of the "Dr. Oz Show."
Dr. Oz said we all overindulge or cheat on our diets from time to time. He said the most common way we cheat is to overload on carbs, after which we feel bloated and lethargic.
Dr. Oz said the following quick fixes can get your diet (and weight loss) back on track:
- Tomato juice with a tablespoon of horseradish. This combination produces a thermogenic effect, which means it increases body heat and therefore boosts metabolism.
- Enjoy watermelon, kiwi or celery. These water-rich foods flush fat and are natural diuretics that quickly get rid of water weight.
- Eat seaweed flakes. Seaweed flakes block fat, and are packed with soluble fiber, which helps control blood sugar levels. It's also rich in minerals, including iodine, selenium, calcium and iron.
- Matcha green tea supplement. Matcha green tea has been hailed as a cancer-fighter and a fat-burner because it's super-rich in antioxidants and the catechin EGCG, which counteract the effects of free-radical damage. Matcha green tea also contains the amino acid l-theanine, which relieves anxiety and promotes a peaceful, calm feeling.
Joan River's Anti-Aging Secrets: Stay Busy and Keep Your Mind Active
On a separate segment of his show, Dr. Oz's guest was comedian Joan Rivers, who said she doesn't regret her numerous plastic surgery procedures over the years, which include nose jobs, facelifts, brow lifts, liposuction, Botox injections, and chemical peels.
"If you can fix it, fix it," said Rivers, 80. "If it makes you happier, I don’t care what anyone says."
Joan's daughter, Melissa, said her mother has gotten less inhibited with age, and that living with her can be very trying. Melissa, 46, is Joan's daughter with her late husband, producer Edgar Rosenberg. Rosenberg committed suicide in 1987.
Melissa told Dr. Oz her main health problem is migraines. She said she has been suffering from migraines her entire life, and that drugs sometimes don't work. Dr. Oz recommended the herb feverfew, which has been shown in numerous studies to relieve migraines as well as PMS.
Meanwhile, Joan said her anti-aging secret is to stay busy, write at least one new joke a day, and do crossword puzzles to keep her mind active.
