This Saturday May 3, venture over to The Ailey Citigroup Theater's Joan Weill Center for Dance for one of two performances presented by the Brooklyn based JKing Dance Company. A 3 p.m. matinee and an 8 p.m. evening show will present Artistic Director & choreographer Joyce King's latest production, RelinQuish, which features her 2013 work, "LISTEn" and the premiere of "Com•part•men•tal•Eyes."
Known for her amalgamation of styles including ballet, jazz, modern, and acting, King's repertory is dynamic and highly physical, driven by emotional undercurrents. "LISTEn" takes on the disruption of innocence due to trauma. Meanwhile, her newest work is a meditation on the divisions and power structures that exist within us, exploring how the mind protects itself and how we attempt to protect others. King comments, “Our goal is to inspire the audience to examine possible preconceptions about mental disorders. These works mark our initial look into such topics, with an expanded project on mental disorders planned for May 2015.”
See below for performance details including how to purchase your tickets. Each performance will be followed by a Q&A with King and her all-female company.
When: Sat., May 3 | 3 p.m. & 8 p.m.
