This was the 14th straight opening-day start for Rollins with the Phillies, which has matched Cal Ripken Jr.'s major league record with Baltimore for the most consecutive seasons starting at shortstop for the same franchise. This was the 200th career homer for the Phillies' starting shortstop as he became the 19th player in major league history with at least 400 doubles, 100 triples and 200 homers.

ESPN reports Rollins' grand slam helped the Phillies outgun the Rangers on opening day. Phillies manager Ryan Sandberg said, "J-Roll, with the big pop early, just really set the tone and got things going. I think it was contagious after that." This really has been contagious with it appearing Rollins and the Phillies are likely to have a spectacular season.
