Jimmy Kimmel does it again with a social media prank from the Sochi Olympics

On Feb. 19, various media outlets, including Sporting News, reported on an unusual story about a stray wolf roaming the halls of a Sochi hotel. American luger Kate Hansen posted the wolf video on social media and titled it “Epic#SochiFail: Wolf in my hall.” Well, it went viral almost immediately, garnering close to 3/4 million YouTube views in just one day. Lee Moran from the “NY Daily News” wrote about the wandering wolf video and asked, “Is that Putin’s pet wolf on the prowl?” On Feb. 20, “Inside Edition” spilled the beans and revealed that it never happened. There was no roaming wolf – it was a social media prank carefully orchestrated by late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel, as revealed in an email dated Feb. 20 to members of the press.

A publicist for the United States Luge Association, Sandy Caligiore, confirmed exclusively to “Inside Edition” that the video shot by Hudson was Kimmel’s idea. Caligiore added that Hansen plans to Skype with Jimmy Kimmel for the taping of his show that airs live on Thursday, Feb. 20. Just last week, California-based surfer Hansen was in the news after a video of her sexy warm-up dances went viral.

Kimmel is notorious for pulling pranks on people. Last Sept., a “twerking girl on fire” video went viral, but it never happened. It was Jimmy's masterminded prank. In addition, every Halloween and Christmas, the funny man asks his viewers to prank their own kids and send in their home movies. Kimmel has done it again with his latest prank from the Sochi Olympics.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” airs at 11:35 p.m. EST on Monday-Friday nights on ABC. To see the prank play out, tune in tonight.
