Howard is the eighth former University of Maine hockey player to make the U.S. Olympic hockey team.
Eric Weinrich was on the 1998 team. Peter Ferraro, Mike Dunham, Chris Imes, Matt Martin, and Garth Snow were on the 1994 team.
Keith Carney joined Weinrich on the '98 team. Dunham was also on the 2002 roster.
Howard is the 12th former Black Bear to make the Olympics as a men's hockey player.
Paul Kariya made the Canada roster in 1994, 1998, and 2002. Jean-Yves Roy was also on the '94 roster.

Howard holds Maine records for career goals against average at 1.84 and career save percentage at .931.
He helped lead Maine to the 2003-04 NCAA Title game. Howard was a 2011 selection to the University of Maine Hall of Fame.
Howard has a 6-9-8 record, 2.76 goals against average and .906 save percentage this season for the Red Wings.
