While there are plenty of local musicians around here looking to Kickstarter and IndieGoGo for help funding their next move, let's not ignore the out-of-town faves who stop by the neighborhood. Take Jimkata, for example.
The New York-based electrorock jam band is a familiar face to Little Five Points, coming and going to The Five Spot throughout their many tours. Spending much of January recording their new album, Jimkata is prepped for their Winter tour to promote not only their new music but their fundraising campaign to provide each fan with individual ear candy.
"...despite all of our hard work and time on the road, we often come home without much more than our sleeping bags and good stories," the band states in their campaign information. What a point they have! They specialize in bringing aural libations for folks around the country to enjoy, especially the East Coast, Midwest and Southeast, where they will travel for the next few weeks.
Folks don't want to hear the same stuff from bands - regardless of the entertainment or charm - unless they are cover bands and cover bands only. Flat out. Granted, Ghost and Killers was a ghoulishly killer album with its hard-hitting funky bass and time-traveling feel, a band must grow. They do plan on sticking with the same production crew (hey, there's growth and then there's going with what works), but the budget for their goal of a new ten-track album rings at a tune of $12,500.
Check out Jimkata's campaign promo video in the sidebar then check out their IndieGoGo page for more information on how to donate. They're coming to The Five Spot tomorrow, so there's not much time to help out on their cause before you see them live. Or you can support their live show, then support the production of their album. Either or both may be fine with Jimkata. The town's favorite pseudo-80s musician Cousin Dan will open with his electronic madness. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the cost is $7.
