Jimi Hendrix’s music will be performed on a tour featuring notable recording artists. The fourth bi-yearly Experience Hendrix tour starts on March 4, 2010, and the following night, a date is slated for Los Angeles at the Gibson Amphitheater. Participating musicians will be playing music composed by Hendrix, as well as music of their own, for which Hendrix had served as their muse.

Some of those who will be performing on the tour will include Joe Satriani, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, Living Colour, Chris Layton of the legendary Double Trouble, and bass player Billy Cox, who played with both the Jimi Hendrix Experience and the Band of Gypsies. The Jimi Hendrix experience played their final date on June 29, 1969 in Denver, Colorado.

Some of the tour’s dates will be feature Sacred Steel featuring Robert Randolph, Susan Tedeschi and David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos. Different variations of these artists will be performing Jimi’s indelible classics including “Purple Haze,” “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," “The Wind Cries Mary,” “Little Wing” and “Red House.” It is likely that special guests will make surprise drop-ins at many of the dates. Such unannounced appearances in the past have included Paul Rodgers of Free and Bad Company fame, blues great Buddy Guy and the Grammy winning Carlos Santana.

The Experience Hendrix Tour was put together by Experience Hendrix, LLC, the Hendrix family-owned company founded by James A. “Al” Hendrix, Jimi’s father, who was dedicated to preserving his son’s legacy. Al Hendrix died in 2002.

A few months ago, Sony Music Entertainment’s Legacy Division and Experience Hendrix entered into a worldwide catalog licensing deal to make all of Jimi’s classic albums, and previously unreleased archive recordings, and concert footage available in all current formats.

Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s sister and CEO of Experience Hendrix noted, "Everyday, we see how Jimi's musical legacy continues to transcend generational and cultural boundaries. This tour is our way to give a live concert experience that reflects the genius of his unifying spirit. Part of our mission is to share Jimi’s music with audiences of all ages and these tours continue to play a key role in fulfilling that vision. As my brother said, “We want our sound to go into the soul of the audience, and see if it can awaken some little thing in their minds. ‘Cause there are so many sleeping people.”
