Saturday night the Star Bar will be loaded with a plethora of tunes from Captain Catfish himself Jimbo Mathus. The Mississippi native will once again grace the hallowed stage at Atlanta’s Star Bar for a night of songs and stories that can go any which way. Country tinged blues filled rock and roll is one way to describe the music as he sings about a number of characters, life in rural America and life decisions.
Always along for the ride are Jimbo’s compadres the Tri-State Coalition. Filled with some of the finest musicians the South has to offer, they are the yin to his yang supplying the supporting rhythms and grooves to Jimbo’s words. Guitarists Matt Pierce gives the music an edge with his scintillating guitar playing while keyboardist Eric Carlton provides the soul. In addition to vocals, Mathus lends his fill of guitars and mandolin with drummer Ryan Rogers keeping things on track.
Out on the road plugging the critically acclaimed Dark Night of the Soul, look for the set list to be heavy on the new stuff with a smattering of classic songs and maybe a cover or two. With a musical catalog that stretches a mile back there should be something for everyone Saturday night.
Get out of the house and make way to the Star Bar so you don’t miss out on Jimbo Mathus & the Tri-State Coalition. Be sure you get there early so you can catch Bad Friend and Jeffrey Butzer. It should be one hell of a night of music.
