The news that Jim Root had left Stone Sour first broke two days ago via the band's social media. Although few details are still known, a conversation that Root had with a fan on Instagram about the departure has surfaced, adding a twist into this unfolding story. When asked why he won't be playing with Stone Sour this summer, Root replied "Not in that band anymore. Not my decision. not happy about it." This inevitably prompted the abrupt announcement from Stone Sour and frontman Corey Taylor himself, which read:

"As some of you might have heard by now, Stone Sour and Jim Root have indeed parted ways. We were trying to wait until the completion of the new SK album, but in light of recent events, we are going to confirm this information and move on. We feel it's best for both bands and hope that is reflected in the days to come. We will give you more information when the time comes."

Now the world is left to speculate whether or not there was a falling out, and whether or not it will create tension with Corey Taylor, who is not only the Stone Sour front man but is also Root's band mate in Slipknot.
