A 25 year old Jim Crockett Sr. was a concert promoter and pro wrestling enthusiast and in 1935 he founded his own pro wrestling company in Charlotte, NC. Eastern States Championship Wrestling would use some of the top performers of the day across several Mid-Atlantic states and was one of the top promotions in the states until 1948 when the National Wrestling Alliance as formed and Crockett was a major player in the new sanctioning body.
Crockett and later Jim Crockett Jr. would consistently sell out major arenas with top stars like Ole Anderson, Gene Anders, Ronnie Garvin, Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes and others making the then named Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling a powerhouse.
Michael Elliot, an award winning producer of "Woo Mercy The Jimmy Valiant Experience" and "History and Tradition the True Story of the National Wrestling Alliance" has teamed with Highspots, a leading wrestling and MMA merchandise retailer, to produce "Jim Crockett Promotions the Documentary" that chronicles the rich history and eventual downfall of the mighty Crockett Promotions.
Production has begun on the project including a number of interviews with the stars who made Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling including Ole Anderson, Jim Cornette and Magnum TA.
Elliot and Highspots have launched a KickStarter campaign to help raise funds for further interviews and to offset production costs. Elliot is money out of pocket early in the project but for him doing the documentary is one of life's passions. "I think this is an important story that needs to be told" Elliot said. "Crockett was one of the biggest promoters ever in wrestling and this will be their story" he added.
To date $3,000 of the needed $15,000 has been raised via the KickStarter campaign and Elliot hopes everyone will donate even if it is just $1.
"This is a piece of wrestling history and it needs to be done the right way and can only happen with your help" Elliot stated.
