Jillian Michaels tackles gluten-free diets, fasting and killer kettlebells

Intermittent fasting is stupid, and gluten-free diets are impossible, says Jillian Michaels, who juggles starring in "The Biggest Loser" with her multi-tasking roles as author, fitness DVD creator, lecturer and new mom. Telling us how she really feels, Jillian recently dished on these and other topics with the San Jose Mercury News.

Jillian has developed her own body of knowledge about what really works when it comes to weight loss. She serves up her food, fitness and tips for living your best life in her new book, "Slim for Life: My Insider Secrets to Simple, Fast, and Lasting Weight Loss" (click here to order now). And she's concerned about the new trend in gluten-free diets. When it comes to "going gluten-free, once you start on that path, the foods start getting less nutritious and more expensive and containing less fiber. Unless you have celiac disease, you don't need to be gluten-free," Jillian says firmly. As for the trend in intermittent fasting and exploding popularity of "The Fast Diet," Jillian has equally strong views:"Oh no, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I never fast. I can't work or function when I don't eat, let alone work out. Is it safe? It depends on the person and their health issues. Before you do something so stupid, you should absolutely talk to your doctor."

When it comes to working out, Jillian has diverse specializations, as demonstrated by her exercise DVDs that range from "Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30" (click for details) to "Jillian Michaels: 6 Week Six-Pack" (click to buy now). And she's even taken the time to be certified in one of the newest fitness specializations, kettlebells. Her tip to get the most from swinging those bells: "It's in the hips. Your hips are navigating the movement instead of your shoulders. In order to get the momentum going, your tailbone should be tucked into your spine, and your hips should be popping up." You can lose up to five pounds a week by complementing those kettlebells with Jillian's fitness DVD: "Jillian Michaels: Shred-It With Weights" (click here to buy).
