Jillian Michaels poses nude at 40: Her hot-body diet and workout secrets

Jillian Michaels is in the best shape of her life at 40, thanks to a portion-controlled diet and intense workouts. Michaels showed off her superfit nude body in a series of demure photos for the July/August 2014 issue of Shape magazine.

“I won’t lie. This birthday was hard," Michaels told Shape. "I thought, ‘Oh, my God, am I halfway through my life?’”

Despite her fear of 40, Jillian looks and feels better than ever. “When I think back on my 20s and 30s, I look better now than I ever have," Michaels said. "Yes, I’m older, but I’m also wiser, and that’s a more intrinsic type of beauty."

Jillian Lost 50 Pounds: Once Weighed 175 Pounds

Michaels, who has helped hundreds of morbidly obese people lose thousands of pounds as a trainer on "The Biggest Loser" since 2004, was herself once 50 pounds heavier.

The 5-foot-3 Jillian, who once weighed 175 pounds, has easily maintained her 50-pound weight loss with exercise and a healthy diet that eliminates processed junk foods.

Michaels said her best body part are her sculpted ab, and credits plank poses (such as side, extended and imbalanced) held for a full minute for her sinewy, fat-free midsection.

Jillian also does lots of lunges and squats to firm up her glutes, adding that she changes her workout routine every month to avoid fitness plateaus. Michaels revealed her fat-blasting workout secrets in her fitness video, Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred.

Usually I'll do one boxing session, one yoga session, two resistance sessions a week. I'll also work out with friends and then once a week I'll go for a jog. I change the workout every month, so you never adapt and never plateau."

Jillian, who has admitted she hates working out, said she exercises because it makes her look and feel her best. “There are so many good reasons to exercise," she said. "It’s important for women to have overall strength, because when you feel physically powerful, it transcends into every facet of your life.”

Jillian: Dolvett Is to Blame For Biggest Loser Anorexia Scandal

Earlier this year, Michaels made headlines after blaming fellow "Biggest Loser" trainer Dolvett Quince for the anorexia controversy surrounding season 15 winner Rachel Frederickson.

"I look to Dolvett to really answer to this," said Jillian. "We, as trainers, are allowed to talk to our contestants when they go home. Rachel [was] Dolvett's contestant."

Michaels and her "Biggest Loser" co-star Bob Harper were visibly shocked on finale night (Feb. 5) when they saw how emaciated Frederickson had gotten. The 5-foot-4 Rachel, who previously weighed 260 pounds, lost 155 pounds by the finale, securing her win for season 15.

Frederickson's skeletal appearance immediately fueled rumors she was suffering from the eating disorders anorexia or bulimia. Quince, author of the bestselling The 3-1-2-1 Diet, insisted that Rachel had lost weight the healthy way, and asked fans not to jump to conclusions. Frederickson has since regained 20 pounds and weighs a healthy 125 pounds.

Rachel's super-skinny appearance caused outrage among "Biggest Loser" fans, who said selecting someone who looks unhealthy as the winner sends the wrong message. Show executives responded by saying they will tweak the weight-loss competition to provide more support and check-ins for the contestants after they leave the Biggest Loser ranch.

Michaels, a happily married mother of two, shared her secrets for permanent weight loss, age-defying health and happiness in her bestseller, Slim for Life.
