In the previous seven seasons of The Biggest Loser, Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper have competed against each other. The contestants have had to choose or have a trainer selected for them, and that is who they worked with throughout the game. The team's would eliminate contestants based on which team lost the least percentage of weight in the previous week.
This season, Jillian and Bob will work together. Jillian says that "this is how the show should have been since its onset. I can't imagine not working together...We have the same ideas and beliefs about where [the contestants] should end up. We have different approaches on how to get there. And I think that we are complementary to each other."
Bob feels the same way, saying it "feels so fresh" to be working together.
Executive producer Mark Koops said:
It feels so fresh and I think adds another new layer to the show. I think it further elevates the show. Watching Bob and Jillian — who I believe to be the world’s two best trainers — working hand in hand, these 16 people who came to the ranch this season… they got the benefits of both trainers as many contestants haven’t. I’ll think you’ll see from the results that they really benefited from that.
The Biggest Loser premieres September 15 on NBC. The cast includes Shauntina "Shay" Sorrells, weighing in at 476 pounds, the biggest contestant the show has ever had.
