Jill Duggar is married now, and she shared her first kiss with her husband Derick Dillard after Saturday's ceremony. The “19 Kids & Counting” star had quite the wedding, and on Sunday People shared all of the big details. Just how big an event was this one?
The big Jill Duggar-Derick Dillard wedding had about 1,000 people in attendance. The “19 Kids & Counting” event had plenty of sweets for the guests, as they put together 3,000 chocolate chip cookies, 600 cupcakes and 3,000 root beer floats in addition to other tasty offerings. There were said to be 100 immediate family members at the Springdale, Ark. event, and people came from more than 30 states to help the Duggar family celebrate.
As fans of the show know, Jill and Derick did nothing more than side-hug until they were engaged. After that they only held hands until the wedding. The kiss shared after they were pronounced husband and wife was the first for the pair, in accordance with the family's conservative beliefs.
The pair made sure to honor their parents during the reception. Of course Jill Duggar's parents, Jim Bob and Michelle, were there. Derick's father passed away in 2008, and his mom Cathy has been in the hospital battling cancer. It is said she came to the ceremony directly from the hospital.
ABC News notes that the ceremony took place at the Cross Church in Springdale. Of course the cameras were rolling, and the wedding between Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard will be featured in an upcoming episode. A photo of the big kiss has already been released, and the couple does look blissfully happy. Fans followed along as the “19 Kids & Counting” couple started their courtship and got engaged, so folks can't wait to see the big wedding as well.
Season 8 of “19 Kids & Counting” should pick up where the mid-season finale left off, which was with Jill and Derick's proposal. Though a return date hasn't been revealed quite yet, it seems it will likely be in September. Congratulations to Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard on their wedding and new marriage!
