Michelle Obama and Dr. Biden are bringing awareness to our Military families. She is emphasizing the struggle of military families and getting Americans involved to do more to help the people who sacrifice each and every day with the newly launched group “Joining Forces”.
“We should all be working together on this,” Michelle Obama said Tuesday in an interview with USA TODAY after the official launch of her new “Joining Forces” initiative at the White House. “These are pretty solid Americans out here that are making these sacrifices quietly for all the rest of us.”
Mrs. Obama said companies are making major, commitments to help military families while urging individuals to "do something as simple as mowing the lawn, shoveling the snow" to assist.
“Unlike our troops, military families don’t wear uniforms so we don’t always see them,” the first lady said during an East Room ceremony.
Both Obama and Biden say “Joining Forces” intends to shape a program that can outlast their husbands’ occupancy. “Our military families deserve our respect and support at every stage of their lives — no matter who’s in office,” Obama said.
President Obama instructed agencies to increase housing, education, health and other programs geared toward military families. “Joining Forces” will concentrate on helping families cope with issues related to employment, education and health.
On Tuesday the following groups committed to “Joining Forces”, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, The US Chamber of Congress, The YMCA and Sierra Club Foundation.
The administration’s national initiative to support and honor America’s service members and their families aims to spark action from all Americans to ensure military families have the support they have so justly earned.
