College is an excellent time for students to explore religion, spirituality and general identity. As our Jewish youth become more high-tech and less high-touch, the challenge becomes finding new and interesting ways to demonstrate to them their rich Jewish heritage and traditions. Goucher College is taking a bold step in this arena November 2-10 with Jewish Culture Week. Students (as well as the general public) are invited to learn about Jewish food, music born of tragic times, and emerging Jewish communities in Africa and around the world.

“Jewish Culture Week will allow our students to explore multiple dimensions of Jewish identity,” says Goucher Hillel Director, Rabbi Josh Snyder. “Our community at Goucher will have their vistas opened to the broadness and richness of how Jewish life is expressed.”

The line-up:

  • November 2 at 8:00 p.m. - Jewish food writer Joan Nathan, author of award-winning cookbooks and the host of an acclaimed PBS series will discuss the rich heritage of Jewish cooking in America.

  • November 6 at 3:00 p.m. – Kristallnacht: The November Pogrom will be commemorated with Voices of the Holocaust, a concert presented by the State College, Pennsylvania, Choral Society and the Juniata College Concert Choir.
    Kraushaar Auditorium
  • November 10 at 8:30 p.m. – Aaron Kintu Moses, a leader of the Abayudaya Jewish community in Mbale, Uganda, will share the unique story of his community.
