This self-described Meshuggena (crazy) show was created for Jews to enjoy on Christmas Eve, where else but in a Chinese restaurant. The Moo Shu Jew Show, now in its third straight year to sold-out perforances will feature an evening of Chinese food and comedy featured nationally recognized comedians: Lenny Marcus, Scott Blakeman, Dana Eagle and Steve Calechman.
Moo Shu Jew was created and produced by Cory Kahaney, a regular on the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
Steve Calechman is a stand-up comedian based in Boston. He has also appeared alongside actress Sandra Bullock in the popular romantic comedy, The Proposal, and is a contributing editor for Men's Health magazine.
Dana Eagle is a stand-up comedian who has appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, on Comedy Central and Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen, where she became a contributing writer.
Scott Blakeman has performed his progressive political humor around the world, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland and the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam. He has made more than 30 national television appearances, and was the warm-up comedian for The Late Show with David Letterman.
Lenny Marcus has been a stand-up comedian for over fifteen years and is currently a regular performer in every major comedy club in New York City. He performed on various late night shows including The Late Show with David Letterman, NBC's Comedy Showcase with Louie Anderson and MTV's The Jim Brewer Show.
Sponsored by the New Center whose motto is to explore the Jewish imagination, the PR states that: "This popular evening will leave you with a belly full of laughs and good food. No shellfish, no pork and lots of veggie dishes." In translation this means that the establishment does not have the seal of the Jewish Va'ad, Boston's kosher rabbinical court, but attendees can work around it with vegetarian dishes.
The even begins at 6 p.m. at the China Pearl in (where else) Chinatown Boston. Tickets are $75 for adults and for those under 40, the price is $45, which means it seeks to be a hot place for Jewish Singles with or without a date.
