The epic HBO series, 'Game of Thrones', returns to TV screens next month, and just in time for the highly anticipated premiere on March 31st, a bold new jewelry line premiers at the JA New York trade show today that is fit for a monarch on the Iron Throne. The costume design for the characters of GOT, the acronym by which it is widely known, is elaborate and detailed, and it is not far fetched to imagine the work of Faith Ann Kiely encircling the throat of Cersei Lannister, the Lady Macbeth of the series, or gracing the fingers of the beleaguered Sansa, wife of the pitiless Prince Joffrey Baratheon. Kiely's eponymous fine jewelry brand is inspired through her artistic perspective on classical antiquity, and the motifs are derived from an eclectic appreciation of the manifestation of Romanesque beauty, art and spirit. Working in 18-karat gold and sterling silver, her intricately carved pieces, resplendent with bold faceted gemstones, are reflective of ancient times, with a distinctly modern look.
The JA New York trade show, that opened today at the Javits Center, is the only leading trade event to call New York City home. The show is an electric mix of the season's best buying opportunities, an easy-to-work marketplace that brings the entire industry together for three focused days of buying, trend spotting, treasure hunting and business building interaction in the jewelry capital of the world. For over 105 years, JA New York has been bringing the industry together, including more than 550 of the world's finest jewelry brands, designers, and suppliers representing the full spectrum of market categories and product choices. Vendors range from high-end designers to major manufacturers to rising stars, and encompass every taste, style and price point. Faith Ann Kiely has chosen to introduce two collections, 'Corinthium' and 'Aquilum', that are destined to become modern classics through their sophisticated balance of ancient and contemporary motifs.
Kiely is a graduate of The Wharton School of Business, with a successful 20-year career as a top-level merchandising executive for some of New York's largest jewelry corporations. She made the life changing decision this year to launch her fully developed Faith Ann Kiely jewelry brand directly to the independent fine jewelry stores and department stores that attend the JA Winter Show. At a private viewing recently at the Penn Club in midtown, Kiely discussed the ideas behind her designs and the drive that has motivated her ever since her childhood in Pennsylvania. An only child, Kiely was always aware of a sense of destiny and independence. The winged motif of her sterling silver pendants and cuff, that also appears on the settings of some of her ring designs, is symbolic of her belief that we all rise above the things that challenge us. She has always had a love of classical architectural structure, nature, symbol and archetype, and her jeweled creations are meant to convey the strength and refinement that have long inspired the expression of natural beauty from antiquity to the present.
