Today, singer-songwriter Jewel posted on her website about the public announcement of her divorce from husband, Ty Murray. The couple has been married for almost 6 years. The couple had been together for 16 years and were married in the Bahamas in July of 2008. They had a son, Kase, who was born in 2011.
In her announcement, Jewel noted, "Ty and I have always tried to live the most authentic life possible, and we wanted our separation as husband and wife to be nothing less loving than the way we came together. For some time we have been engaged in a private and difficult, but thoughtful and tender undoing of ourselves. Allowing ourselves the time and space to redefine what we are to each other with love rather than malice."
Jewel and Ty Murray indicated that they will continue to be committed as being the best parents in raising their son, Kase. They plan to remain friends as that is "only what is best for our son."
Ty Murray did not release a statement, but maintained the joint statement on being friends. Murray is a professional bull rider and is a nine-time World Champion. He would be involved in rodeo for 20 years before retiring. He and Jewel both appeared on the hit television series, “Dancing With the Stars.”
Jewel is a singer-songwriter from Alaska who was well known in the pop world for her songs, “Foolish Games,” “Hands,” “You Were Meant For Me,” and “Who Will Save Your Soul.” She would cross over to country music with a release, “Perfectly Clear” with The Valory Music Co.
Jewel is currently on tour with select west coast dates. You can read the full text of her note here.
