It was a typical Brisbane match as the Roar dominated possession throughout the match, starting very well controlling the possession.
Seven minutes in to the match Brisbane had a golden opportunity as Besarat Berisha sent a ball for Ivan Franjic who was then able to sent the ball back for Liam Miller who wasted the opportunity sending the chance over the bar.
The next chance also fell to Brisbane as Thomas Broich sent a pin point cross for Berisha who hit his header right at Mark Brighitti.
It was all Brisbane through those opening stages but poor first touches and finishing allowed the Jets to easily get out of trouble.
And after the half hour the Jets started to produce attacks of their own and in the 34th minute had a shock opener as Jacob Pepper sent the ball for Andrew Hoole who did well to beat Matt Smith and cross in to the area. The cross was met by James Donachie who dealt with it poorly, heading it in to the back of his own net, giving the visitors a shock lead.
Both sides tried to attack through the last ten minutes of the half but neither could make a real impact as the Jets took a lead in to the break.
Newcastle's desperate defense kept them in front after the break as Corey Brown looked to find Ivan Franjic with a cross but was denied as Sam Gallaway came in to make a block, clearing the ball.
Adam Taggart could well have followed that up with doubling the Jets goal Josh Brilliante set up the inform striker but he sent his effort wide of goal with Michael Theo beat.
Broich was dangerous for Brisbane but he just couldn't break through a stern Newcastle defense that held on well.
Three minutes from time Newcastle wrapped it all up as Joshua Brilliante was able to find Joseph Gibbs who was able to powerfully slam the ball past Theo.
The win sees the Jets up to third and stops Brisbane Roar from getting away, keeping the league in touch with the Roar.
