Two jets nearly collided at a Barcelona airport and the event is being described as an "air miracle." The incident occurred Saturday at the El Prat airport in Barcelona, Spain when a Boeing 767-300 of UTair airline from Moscow almost crashed when landing while an Airbus A340-300 Aerolineas Argentinas plane taxied across the runway, according to a report from The Associated Press today.
The jets near collision was captured by Miguel Angel, who posted the video to YouTube, where it has been viewed over five million times as of the time of this report. At the time of the near collision, the amateur aviation enthusiast just happened to be filming takeoffs and landings with his video camera.
The incident happened on the track 2 Spanish airport. The pilot of the Russian jet had to abort its landing just meters from the Argentine aircraft, where the latter apparently crossed the track without permission.
The dramatic video, which can be seen above this article, shows the terrifying moment when the two planes almost collide. However, disaster was averted thanks to the intelligence of one pilot. The Russian pilot had to improvise a maneuver called "Go Around," which involves planes rapidly climbing altitude to avoid colliding with another plane.
AENA said it has opened an investigation into what happened. The airport said that the video was shocking to see from the perspective of the cameraman.
Angel described the incident as being "one of the worst experiences I have ever had." Newsmax wrote that after the runway was cleared, the Russian plane was able to circle back and make its scheduled landing.
