The heat that has New South Wales ablaze made life tough for Newcastle and Perth Glory as they were unable to break through each other for a scoreless draw at Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Newcastle started well in front of their home crowd as they had the side push up with a high defensive line and nearly found an early goal as Ruben Zadkovich was able to charge down Danny Vukovic's clearance and saw it bounce wide off the post.
Zadkovich continued to look dangerous for the Jets regularly finding space on the edge of the area and hitting powerful shots from the edge of the area.
For all their effort the Jets couldn't find a goal as the sides went in to the break level with no goals to show.
Perth Glory started the better side in the half as Mark Birighitti was forced in to a save as Adrian Zahara was able to find Sidnei lurking at the far post only for Sidnei to shoot right at Birigitti.
Newcastle quickly took back the upper hand and very nearly stunned Glory as Sam Gallaway sent a cross in to the box that a gust of wind caught and sent over Vukovic and in to the crossbar. That allowed Adam Taggart to hit an effort on the rebound but he sent his shot over the bar.
The Jets were looking the better side but it was Perth who should have hit the lead as Jacob Pepper's error allowed Jamie McLaren a chance one-on-one with Birighitti but he shot right at the keeper.
That led to period of good chances for Perth as Sidnei hit a powerful effort from distance that Birighitti was able to save and get around the post.
Newcastle probably have a right to feel aggrieved as late on Nathan Burns went down in the box after a Jack Clisby challenge but no penalty was awarded.
Perth had two more chances in stoppage time but again Birgihtti was able to keep them out as the match ended scoreless.
