Back in 1968 who would have thought that the flute could be a major force in rock music? Well, call him crazy but Ian Anderson knew. And others have tried since, but no one can really pull it off like Ian.
The blend of Anderson's flute and vocals, together with the amazingly talented guitar work of Martin Barre, set new standards in what would become known as Progressive Rock. Rather than singing silly love songs, or angst-filled power ballads, Jethro Tull's music told stories. One could easily find oneself carried away to Merry Ole England, with Tull filling the role of Rock Minstrel.
With the 1971 release of Aqualung, Tull took center stage in the rock world, packing stadiums all over the US and Europe. Fast forward 40 years and the songs of Aqualung are still a staple of classic rock radio worldwide. The title track Aqualung, Cross-eyed Mary, Locomotive Breath can all be heard almost on a daily basis. What better way to celebrate than a new tour!
And that tour will bring the legendary Jethro Tull to the San Diego area on Sunday June 12th at Harrah's Open Sky Theater. Tull will repeat the show at the Grove in Anaheim the next night, June 13th. Tickets available at Harrah's website and The Grove website.
