Bruce Gerleman, owner of Splash Seafood Bar & Grill and five Jethro's BBQ locations in the Des Moines Metro, announced yesterday that he will be opening a sixth, and very unique, Jethro's BBQ in the former Hooter's location at 1480 22nd Street in West Des Moines. Each new Jethro's has added something to the original Drake location's menu of favorites: smoked steaks in Altoona, Cajun dishes in Waukee, new fish and seafood dishes in Ankeny, and pork chops in Johnston. The new West Des Moines location will be all about bacon. Jethro's BBQ n' Bacon Bacon will feature bacon-wrapped ribs, hand-cut-to-order bacon steaks, breakfast all day, chocolate-covered bacon, and more. Gerleman hopes to open the new restaurant by September.

Owners of the Standard Martini Bar at 208 Third Street in Downtown Des Moines have retooled the space into two new businesses under one roof. They reopened late last week as The Stuffed Olive and the Voodoo Lounge. Downstairs, The Stuffed Olive will offer one of the largest martini menus in the Metro, plus a menu that features tapas items like Chicken Skewers, Risotto Croquettes, and Stuffed Olive Sliders, as well as soups, salads, desserts, and a few full-sized entrees including Lobster Mac and Cheese, Cajun Shrimp Pasta, and Grilled Tilapia Fish Tacos. Upstairs, the Voodoo Lounge will feature soft leather furniture, high-end liquors, craft beers, and live DJ's on the weekend.

In a few other restaurant notes:

The 2013 Iowa Restaurant Association "Chef of the Year" winner Chef Johan Larsson has left Django to take over the kitchen at Trostel's Dish.

Flix Brewhouse has moved back their estimated opening at Merle Hay Mall. The combination first-run movie theater, microbrewery, and restaurant had planned to open this summer but is now targeting an opening near Christmas.

High Life Lounge and El Bait Shop have merged their menus after years of making two different sets on menu items in one kitchen.
