In an animal cruelty action that occurred a couple of weeks ago, a ranch owner is facing charges of animal abuse. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Jesus Torres, 38, on 27 counts of animal abuse.
Deputies brought a search warrant to the 26500 W. Rockaway Hills, Morristown address. Sheriff’s Office had received a complaint about Torres and his animals.
According to Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the deputies went to the property with a veterinarian to assess the animals and examine them. He found all of the animals in poor condition with protruding ribs and hips, in “distressed” condition and needing food. Arpaio’s Animal Crimes Unit served the warrant and removed seven horses and three ponies. In addition, three goats and four chihuahua dogs were also seized from the ranch.
The horses and goats will go to the Tent City Jail to be taken care of by male inmates. The dogs will go to the First Ave air-conditioned jail, where female inmates will tend to them. The suspect is going to 4th Avenue Jail.
The owner faces animal cruelty charges.
