Jesus is Lord: Master

Master
I can think of no better description of a master than in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30). This is a master with authority, with property, and one that invests in his servants. The master is either one that we desire with all of our hearts to please as was the case of the first two servants, or one that we fear to the point of debilitation. This master is also ruler over his domain as evidenced by the greater responsibility and authority apportioned the first two servants and the just but undesirable plight of the third servant. Perhaps the master reveals more of his lordship in the single statement, “come and share your master’s happiness.”
Jesus invites us to where we cannot be invited—the servant into the life of the master.     Much like Paul’s analogy of the soldier wanting only to please his commanding officer (2 Timothy 2:4); these servants desire only to please their master. Their master’s greatest gift to them is sharing his joy. This is a true glimpse at the type of master that we have in Jesus. He is one that wants us to share his joy.

This survey explores and confirms that this is a very viable thread throughout the gospels, epistles, and eschatology of the New Testament. Decide for yourself if you agree with Dr. Rustenhaven and myself, that the message of the New Testament is JESUS IS LORD!
