Jesus is Lord: King of the Jews

King of the Jews
This was a title proclaimed at the beginning and the end of our Master’s life. The first chapter of Matthew describes the genealogy of Jesus and his birth, but it is the second chapter where is royalty is validated by earthly means. The visit of the Magi who came seeking a king and they found Jesus—now in a home setting with his mother. They bowed down and worshipped him and opened their treasures before him. This was no let’s run down to the town square and look at the nativity scene. This was a long trek over a great distance to a specific point.
As important as the quality of navigation involved for this part of the birth story is, the fact that these men chose King Jesus over King Herod says even more . They disobeyed Herod. Yes, they were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, but these were men in a foreign country that surely stood out. When they returned by another route, they surely risked their lives disobeying one king to honor another. Their decision declared at least for them, Jesus is Lord.
This survey explores and confirms that this is a very viable thread throughout the gospels, epistles, and eschatology of the New Testament. Decide for yourself if you agree with Dr. Rustenhaven and myself, that the message of the New Testament is JESUS IS LORD!
