In the Gospel reading for Sunday, September 15, 2012 the Pharisees complained that Jesus spent time and shared meals with sinners. Most of us, at some point, have been the sinners who welcomed the opportunity to be with Jesus. But how many of us, who call ourselves "good Catholics" and "good Christians", have been like the Pharisees? How often to we look at others and think that we are holier and more pious? Father Richard Rohr, OFM has said that "Jesus never shamed sinners", but got angry with people who did not think they were sinners. The self-righteous and the hypocritical were the ones Jesus chastised most often. So who are we more like? The tax collectors and other sinners? Or the Pharisees?
