Jesus compares the conditions of Noah's time to those of His return to earth

In Matthew 24:37-39, Jesus compares the conditions of the world of Noah’s time to the conditions of the world at the time of His return to earth. This is a good comparison since many of the social, intellectual, moral, and spiritual conditions that were present in the world of Noah’s time before the flood are similar to what is happening in the world today.

In describing the conditions in the world of Noah’s time before the flood Genesis 6:5, 12 (NASB) states that “the LORD saw the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and every intent of his heart was only evil continually . . . and God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.”

These conditions were the result of people abandoning the restraints of living according to God’s principles. The more that those people rebelled against following God’s principles for living, the more they were driven into following demonic deceptions and the ungodly cravings of their fleshly nature and the more they spread great wickedness and corruption throughout the world.

The extent of that wickedness was so great that, according to Genesis 6:6-7,13 God was grieved in His heart and sorry that He made man on the earth. As the result of that, God was going to destroy every living creature on earth.

However, when God found Noah and his family living according to God’s principles, He changed His plan. According to Genesis 6:8-22, now God was going to save Noah, his family, along with the other living creatures, but destroy the wicked people in a great flood.

Maybe God’s plan was to build up more people like Noah and their family after the flood and possibly have a new society of people living according to God’s principles.

However, not long after the flood the new generations of people seemed to have forgotten the lesson of why God sent the great flood on the earth as many people gradually returned to their fallen sinful nature mindset of rebelling against God’s principles of living so they could follow the desires of their fleshly nature and demonic deceptions. This resulted in the world once again being filled with great wickedness.

This sounds similar to what is happening in our modern world because much of mankind has developed a worldview and mindset that has no place for either God or the practice of living according to God’s principles of living found in the Bible.

Instead of using God’s principles, many people have put the teachings of worldly people to be the center of their intellectual, social, and moral world.

As the result of many people pushing God out of their worldview and mindset, many people have opened themselves up to becoming overcome by various demonic deceptions and the wild cravings of their fleshly nature so that they do things which continuously break God’s laws and spread wickedness in many places that they go.

The wickedness of modern society can be seen as millions of people feed on the wickedness that the entertainment and advertising industries produce. It can also be seen by watching the enormous amount of criminal activities on television news programs and reading about them in the newspapers.

Another way to see how some people are rebelling against God and the way they are opening themselves up to being overcome by demonic deceptions is to see the acceptance of different practices of witchcraft that are being promoted by various movies, television programs, books, music, etc.

As all these things are happening most people who are involved in them are becoming blinded to the signs of the coming judgment of God that will happen to them either when they die or when Jesus comes back to earth to conquer every form of evil and rebellion against God and establish God’s earthly kingdom.

Just as the people of Noah’s day were so caught up in their ungodly lifestyle that they couldn’t take Noah’s warning (2 Peter 2:5) seriously until the time the rain was flooding their area and it was too late for them to escape the coming judgment; so also many people in our present world are so caught up in their ungodly pleasures and demonic deceptions that they are unable to take seriously the warning from God’s people about the judgment of God that will be coming upon them as punishment for breaking God’s laws.

No matter how much people believe that they won’t face God’s judgment for what they have done in their life, Revelation 20:12-15 declares that everyone will face God’s judgment: “I saw the dead, the great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the book of life. . . and if anyone’s name was not written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

When the people who have lived an ungodly lifestyle which broke God’s laws face God’s judgment, they will receive the punishment of spiritual death and be thrown into the lake of fire.

However, those people who have asked God to forgive them for breaking His laws and then have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and have spiritually applied His sacrificial atonement on the cross to their lives; they have had the spiritual death sentence for breaking God’s laws removed from them and have been written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Therefore, when those people stand before God’s judgment throne, Jesus will stand beside of them and will tell God the Father that since they have accepted Jesus as their Savior and have been forgiven by God for breaking His laws; then they can be taken to Heaven to live with Jesus forever!
