Jesus Christ is High Priest in heaven

Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr. named police Captain Paul Humphries to assistant police chief today. Currently, Captain Humphries serves as the chief of staff for Police Chief Craig. The appointed assistant chief will begin his new role at Cincinnati PD on January 31. Captain Humphries experience includes being Cincinnati’s former commander of internal investigations, training, personnel, vice, planning, and night captain. In addition, Captain Humphries has spent time serving in three of Cincinnati’s five police districts.

Hebrews 7:14-17 reminds Christians of the appointment of Christ Jesus to the role of High Priest before God the Father in the heavenly place. It states: “For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. For it is witnessed of him, ‘You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.’” Christ Jesus is the High Priest forever because he is the mediator between God and man, and he is the only High Priest who is without beginning or end.

Cincinnati just experienced the appointment of a highly qualified individual to an important role in the life of the city. Hebrews teaches Cincinnati Christians that their savior was appointed as High Priest of heaven. Christ Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant and serves as the perfect High Priest for every Christian, including those believers living in the greater Cincinnati area. While Cincinnatians trust their leadership to take care of them and keep them safe, Cincinnati Christians can trust Jesus Christ to always intercede for them and take care of them at every turn.
